Week of August 20th: Life in Barbados
Bonjour Amis!
Another lovely week in the southern Caribbean! Apparently Barbados
has been in a drought, but one would not know that by the rain we get daily. Usually it comes down fast and moves on, but we’ve had some overcast days with some steady rain. Flash flood warnings were issued several times this week.

The infrastructure for roads and drainage are definitely not the island’s selling points. Lesson learned: ALWAYS keep your umbrella with you for rain or in case you have to stand in an outside line in the middle of the day!

We have a great office team! We have to like each other, because we live in the same apartment complex, we work in the same office, we go to church together, AND we play together! We have weekly team meetings, so we are all on the same page. Planning at its finest!
Our office Elder is in charge of apartments and cars on the island, so Sister Newell & I helped out by doing apartment checks for him. Yet another way to serve our missionaries. One Elder even made us
!
! We had 2 baptisms on island Saturday. It’s our first to be able to participate. I love
that all the missionaries come and support. Two of course performed the ordinance and it was an honor to watch them honor their priesthood duties. Afterwards we had choir practice to work on a song that we will sing at Zone Conference this week: The Army of Helamen/Sisters in Zion medley. We are learning the new words for sister missionaries. Was already crying with how powerfully the Lord loves His missionaries.

Doug & I had to speak in church this week. We love
the branch. Funny
Barbados thing…..they don’t like the rain. They hide from it. So if it rains, traffic is very light, the stores and beaches are empty, and very few people show up to church. In their defense, most don’t drive so they walk or take the bus to church so rain makes it sooo much harder to get to church. One poor guy was completely soaked when he arrived today.

Doug had Barracuda. We met Darian our waiter and got to have a great conversation about God.
Afterwards we checked out 2 new beaches:
Dover Beach:
Worthing Beach:
Life is better with sandy toes!
