The Calm After the Storm: Barbados is GOOD!

Hurricane Tammy

We're fine! I’m fine! He’s fine!  Are you fine?  What a week!  We spent most of the week storm watching-- waiting and anticipating if and when Storm Tammy would make her way to our mission.  On Saturday, her bands were felt across Barbados 🇧🇧 and we had some impressive flooding! In a mission with 8 islands, 2 of which have no senior couples, we plan for disasters but actual practice is what reveals the weak spots.  Luckily,  all went well.  Tammy took a turn and where her path was projected, she decided to take the path less traveled & that made all the difference!  Our mission leader's flight got cancelled and so ended up on Martinique 🇲🇶 through the weekend so they had adults to help them as well.  Tender mercies all around!  One of my tasks is to help with our emergency planning and preparation.  This is the last thing on a young missionary's mind.  We’ve got their backs! Our office team is command central.  We even dug out the satellite phones!  📱

Flooding was an issue on Barbados

Shout out to our little Cami who turned 3 on Sunday!  She wanted an Encanto party!🎉 Can’t believe she’s 3! Happy birthday 🎈 cutie girl!

Love that the GRANDS 💝each other!

Love that our grandkids love each other!  Definitely a joy when we receive pics from home.

We had a great devotional this week on our personal 📚 study.  We listened to a talk by Elder Nash on Searching the Scriptures. He encouraged us that if we want to grow in strength and skill as a missionary that we need to search and love the scriptures.  The 3 keys to this:
  • Study
  • Feast upon
  • Treasure His Word
By doing these 3 things, it will lead us to further light and truth.  The Word is quick and powerful.  If we want to lay hold upon the Spirit, we need daily experiences with His word.  He asked a great pondering question:  Is the Word of God propelling us forward?  A promise with the challenge:  The Word enhances our capacity to overcome!  We all struggle with something, it's inevitable in this life, so the promise is something that I want to bind myself to.  Another great quote that Doug received in an opportune moment through another missionary was a tender mercy:  "God won't let us fail, but He will let us learn."  WE are definitely learning!

Some fun pics while out and about this week:

This we we prepare for Elder Cordon, our Area Authority, to visit Barbados for our District Conference.  We are excited to meet with him.  More about that next week.
